Gary A. Troia, PhD, CCC-SLP

Faculty in Special Education

Gary A. Troia is Associate Professor of Special Education at Michigan State University. Prior to receiving his doctorate in Special Education from the University of Maryland in 2000, he worked 10 years in the public schools as a special educator and speech-language pathologist, and 6 years as a university communication sciences and disorders program clinical supervisor. Dr. Troia is co-editor of the journal Topics in Language Disorders and serves on the editorial boards of several top special education journals. He has authored over 60 research papers, book chapters, and white papers and has given numerous presentations about his work in the areas of phonological processing and awareness, writing assessment and instruction, and teacher professional development in literacy. He has been awarded over $6.5 million in intramural and extramural grants and contracts.

Faculty in Special Education

Adrea J. Truckenmiller has a PhD from Syracuse University in School Psychology and is currently an Associate Professor at Michigan State University. She conducts research in the Special Education and School Psychology programs and co-developed the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) MA degree program. Prior to coming to MSU, she was a coach for district-wide positive behavior support and MTSS at the Devereux Center for Effective Schools and then a researcher at the Florida Center for Reading Research and Regional Education Laboratory Southeast. Dr. Truckenmiller is an associate editor for the British Journal of Educational Psychology and serves on several school psychology and reading journal editorial boards. She collaborates with school districts to improve decision-making based on writing and reading assessment within a MTSS framework and has 25 peer-reviewed publications. She has been awarded over $5.3 million in extramural grants and contracts.
